Flights of Fantasy - Marty Mason

"You better be good, better not pout....."

Yes, I believe.  I believe that there really is a Santa Claus who lives in all the hearts of children.  Children of all ages all around the world.

From the very first day the challenge was announced, I knew that my response to the challenge would be Santa in some form or other.

I'm fabric scrap saver!!  When I ran across this little bag of scraps from Anna Maria Horner's 'True Colors' fabric line, the plan just flashed into my head.   I sat about sewing all the little pieces together then drafted Santa in his sleigh and a reindeer and then the city scape  and made my cutouts on the pieced fabric.  Next, placed the scene on the black background and stitched around all the edges in the raw-edge applique fashion.  Added the reins so Santa could guide his sleigh.    Seemed to me that the little dots were the stars in the sky during his mad rush to deliver on Christmas night.

There, you have it.....my fantasy.  Hoping for all children of the world love and peace and all the joys of Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all
and to all a Good Night

    1. It took me a while, Robbie, but I'm glad I decided on those oh so many pieces to put together. I liked the light silhouette against the black.

    1. Those fabric scraps just kept staring at me until the light bulb came on. The very light silhouette against the black sky seemed to work well.

  6. Such a lovely quilt! My son loves it! And yeah, he believes in Santa. Though we do not celebrate Christmas, he hangs his stocking and Santa puts lovely gifts in it! My Dad did it for me too! But since no one knew how to sew back then, we just hung our school socks and 'Santa' had to find things that could fit into it! LOL! Your quilt brought back so many memories! Thank you for putting a smile on my face!

  9. I LOVE THIS!! And, perfect timing! Funny that Santa Claus never even crossed my mind and a flying sled Santa Clause is perfect for a fantasy character in flight! Aside from concept....I am going to steal your use of scraps at some point in time!!

  15. Love this Marty, who doesn't love Santa Clause. I told my children when they were young, if you don't believe in Santa, there will be no more presents. They are well and truly adults and "they still believe in Santa" ha ha. This is a very happy little quilt, will go and put my Christmas tree up now.
