I purposely chose blues for the little girl and the background since blues recede thus the red cardinal will stand out in front of the girl.
The bird needed some added attention so I created three dimensional feathers that I double fused, machine stitched to the cardinal and then "fluffed it's feathers" after snipping very close together.
The cardinal got some red glitter nail polish on it's body and the eye is fabric paint.
The girl got a hat accessory from hand dyed velvet and a button and her coat also got a button. I tried to keep it simple this time!
This is a close up of the cardinal-I wish my photography had captured the dimension of the added feathers.
The new challenge is due January 31, 2015. It is called "Structure" and I have an idea already to go!!
It is perfect, Laurie!!!!! I love the girl and addition of the cardinal is a wonderful addition!!
ReplyDeleteGreat clear colours . I like this quilt very much
ReplyDeleteStunning Quilt!!! I love everything about it! The colors and your technique too!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty, i love the way the Cardinal stands out.
ReplyDeleteCardinals always make me think of my grandmother and I love them! I love their flash of bright color during the somber winter months (even though we don't get many of them down here in Texas). This is great and I love all the little details!
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt! Great colors...you are right..putting the brilliant red cardinal in front of the blue really makes it pop! And, yes, I wish we could see each other's for real...pictures are great but the real thing would be so much more!
ReplyDeleteLove the combination.
ReplyDeleteI think this would be my favourite of your quilts Laurie. The little girl is adorable and I always love a bird, especially a bright one. Blue was the perfect colour choice for this winter scene and it does make the bird pop.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful and so is her best winter bird friend. Love it Laurie.
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt also Laurie, looks like a poster for Christmas. Are those little Cardinals really that red in colour, it must look beautiful on a dull winters day.I really love this quilt, well done.
