Monochromatic 2 - Lizz Ploppert

I know I'm stretching the monochromatic "wedge" of the color wheel by using orange AND yellow but they're right there next to each other! And you can see my base fabric opened me up to it! My little chirpper seems happy enough with his flowers! But I added some beads and metallic threads anyway.

I cut the flowers and background black to the dimensions of my pattern and then skim a bit of the focus fabric away from each piece giving me a stained glass effect when they are puzzled together on the black. All the elements are then fused in place and quilted with monofilament thread. I stitched small tangled leaves in the background. How tweet is this?!

All in all I was pleased and the best part.....It's been done for a week! I wasn't up all night trying to get done in time! Yea me!

  1. Lovely, I see three colours plus black, but it's a wonderful quilt all the same. Plus I'm seriously considering using white as a highlight for the birds in mine too so I can't really talk. :)

  3. I love the black "lines" on all the edges of the applique. You also picked orange-was it seasonal? :)

  6. The many different prints really make this such a lovely quilt Lizz. I love the appliqué technique you have used and the stitching is top notch. I am envious of your perfect mitred binding :-)
