Apologies for my tardiness. My daughter and I have been sick for the last couple of weeks, but I managed to pull my quilt together –a day late and a dollar short. It isn’t quite what I pictured in my mind (and I might re-work the 'rain' to fit my vision), but it morphed into something else that I kind of like. It was one of those quilts that you nearly turn into scraps half-way through, but ultimately, I’m glad I stuck it out.
This quilt depicts a Thunderbird, which is generating rain and lightning. You can imagine the thunderous beats of its wings as it soars across the sky. During rainstorms that drop sheets of water, and cause blinding flashes and booming crashes that shake your windows, you can communicate with these thunder beings – if you listen hard enough.
I fused the Thunderbird onto the background fabric using Steam-A-Seam 2. I used free motion quilting to add a lazy cloud pattern to the sky, define and add feathers to the Thunderbird, and create the lightning effect. I hand-sewed the rain after facing the quilt.
Nice work. I really like the background fabric and the long stitches for the rain.

Love the Idea of the thunderbird.. The stitches denoting rain are just perfect the way they are!

ReplyDeleteGreat feeling of wings sweeping through the air!
ReplyDeleteGreat depiction. I also love the colours you have in the sky. It really gives the effect of the lightening lighting up the sky. Joyce
