Song Bird - MaryEllen Sax - "For Mom"

Inspired by the hymn-In the Garden by-C. Austin Miles (about 1913)

My Song Bird piece is dedicated to my mom. In the Garden was one of her favorite hymns. I remember her singing along with the record player as we did Saturday chores together.
My piece is call Welcome to the Garden, I think my mom would have loved it.

-The white dove at the top is done in a variety of sheers, and feathers. She is carrying a wool rose.
-The background it small bits and pieces of green fabrics, ribbon, threads and hand dyed lace.
-Ribbon and wool flowers are added by hand and make up the garden flowers.
-The fence is free motion machine stitched.
-The birdbath and birdhouse are fused on and free motion stitched.
-Fabric painted birds of many colors are seen around the garden (the birdbath, birdhouse, on the fence and in flight).
-The whole piece is covered in netting and free motion quilted on my domestic machine. The white bird is appliqued on and machine embellished.

On the back along with the label and sleeve, I made a pocket with a copy of the hymn, the pattern for the bird and a photo of my mom.
I hope you enjoyed my piece.  The words to the hymn, In the Garden, are lovely and can easily be found online.
