My Folklore quilt features a 'rainbow serpent'.
A Rainbow serpent is a creature from aboriginal dream time (folklore).
This quilt did not turn out how I envisaged it in my head.
The snake was supposed to be plump and round and raised from the background.
However not every idea works to plan!
The snake was machine stitched with the 7 rainbow colours onto orange sheer fabric and then cut out.
The background wadding had the 'snake' shape cut away and the fabric covering was turned under through the opening. The rainbow snake was hand stitched into place, another backing fabric placed over and then the background was machine quilted allover in a tiny pebble design.

What a fun way to add dimension to a quilt. I'll have to try that technique. Very cool!
