In The Garden - Karen Silvers

"Spring"

I love the iris.  To me it's the hummingbird of the rooted things in the garden.  I had some log cabin blocks left over from another project, so I made a couple more, stitched them together, then cut them down to fit this challenge.  I created the iris from a photo of some purple irises from my own garden.  I made it white because it shows up so beautifully against the dark greens of the background blocks.  I drew it with Tsukineko inks on plain white cotton, backed it with stabilizer, then stitched over it before I layered with batting and backing.  Then I added a bit more stitching to give it all a bit more dimension.

  3. I adore Iris too. That was my second choice for this challenge to sew / quilt / thread paint an iris I had silk painted years ago.
    Yours is lovely.

  6. Love it Karen. I particularly like how well the background works with a mixture of straight and on point setting of the blocks/partial blocks. Very effective.
