Here's my quilt for the Structure Challenge.
Being an Architect, it was easy to have chosen a picture of a building and done it, like I wanted to. It was my first instinct.
But then, I thought again. This time I decided I wanted to design a structure that wasn't architecture.
It took me a lot of time to come up with the theme. I was looking for things that were quilting related and which I had a connection to long before I started quilting.
I remembered that I used to love the way thread was wound on a spool. When my mom used thread (it wasn't much because she used it only to mend clothes) I always tried to re-wind it the same way (I almost NEVER was successful - Maybe that's why I remember it distinctly.
It was then that I decided to make the 'structure' of a spool my subject.
Here's my quilt.
I fussy cut and paper pieced a striped fabric from my stash and then super-dense quilted over it in straight lines using a variegated spool of aurifil.
Here is a detail of the quilting.
I gifted it to Alex Veronelli (Brand Jedi of Aurifil) when I met him at Quiltcon on my trip to the USA. I did not want to share it before I gave it to him. And thats the reason for the late post!
Do you like my "Structure"?
Love it, what a lucky person to get it as a gift
