"He's Back"
For this Monochromatic challenge I wanted to know if I could make the clown
from the Song Title (in someone else's style) challenge, work in one colour.
I reused my drawing from the other challenge.
This time I have changed the technique slightly, trimming each applique piece to make it a little smaller,
then fused each piece leaving a slither of background fabric (black) showing between each piece.
This is a leadlight applique technique I hadn't tried before.
The diamonds are appliqued onto the black background fabric using the same leadlight technique.
Also turned the quilt from portrait to landscape orientation.
Edge bindings have been fused on and trimmed with brown ric-rac .
An edging technique I've not ever done before.
So far every one of my challenge quilts has a different edge treatment / finish.

Double WOW!! This is wonderful. Love the fabrics you used (e.g. eyes)...very cool! What leadlight technique did you use??
ReplyDeleteLeadlight technique where a little space is left between every fused piece of fabric allowing the background (black) fabric to show as if it were 'lead' in leadlight. Then I just raw edge stitched every piece (well nearly every piece, I have discovered I missed stitching one tiny piece) opps!
DeleteLiked No. 1, but I really like No. 2 clown.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty. There may be more clowns yet, many more ideas to explore.
DeleteFleur-This is a challenge within a challenge! I may try this technique as a value challenge in the future. I found that "gray is the new black" and there are plenty of nice fabrics to choose from.
ReplyDeleteI found it a very valuable / interesting exersise to alter an existing piece of work done using colour as contrast to try to make it work as monochrome, using tone as contrast. Not everything translated easily, some tweaking was required!
DeleteIm not sure which one I like best, the monochromatic one or the colourful one. Either way both are great quilts.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne
DeleteLove your idea!!! Totally!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shruti. RE-DO could be a theme for us in the future - as in re make a previous quilt in a different style / technique. It is an interesting exersise, very good learning experience to re-make something but change it.
DeleteInteresting and very effective appliqué technique Fleur. I like both clowns but I think this one is my favourite.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robyn. I still like the colour (1st one) better.
ReplyDeleteI think I like this fellow bettter than the other.
