For those who follow my blog, you may remember this 'hum bug' bag I made last fall for a buddy.
I love cutting up my old quilts...my bud, Mary Andrews, actually got me started doing this a few years ago...or should I say 'gave us permission' to do this!! I haven't stopped since! Mary was and still is cutting up her quilts, so she is my inspiration!
The original piece was a bleached shibori piece of fabric my daughter made several years ago. I had hand stab stitched along with some embroidery stitches.
Also, back in 2010, I was playing with burning Tyvek for another exhibit, so thought I would combine both of these left over pieces in our challenge!
So from all of these pieces.....this is my finished piece.....
There are a lot of hand stitches in the black background...
And the orange/yellow area was free motion quilted. I joined each piece using some leftover binding I had from another project.
This was a fun challenge and I had an opportunity to Re-use (old quilt pieces), Re-cycle (old quilts) and Re-duce (my stash)!
And your re-re-re artwork is re-lightful! You've opened my eyes to re-thinking - re-doing. Love it.
ReplyDeleteWow! The finished piece doesn't look anything like I would have expected from those bits. I remember the orange and blue bird thing. This turned out very well. I like it a lot.
ReplyDeleteSimply stunning quilting Robbie! Looks like it's been done via a computerised long arm it's so perfect! great idea to repurpose these too!
ReplyDeleteOh wow!!! Amazing!!! I love it and it aptly fits the challenge!!! Awesome work, girl!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat!! Love what you do with the "old" stuff...we all need to do more!
ReplyDeleteThank you all! This was fun to do and don't you love it that we didn't need to buy anything for this challenge! although, I have done well this year, not purchasing fabric (other than for my grandson's quilt)!
ReplyDeleteInteresting way to reuse an old quilt, came up looking good
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show that nothing need go to waste. I love this Robbie. I like everything about it but especially the quilting and hand stitching.
ReplyDeleteStunning piece and there IS a lot of hand stitching!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how we can change and manipulate things to create beautiful art.
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring!
