The background is dyed using random resists. The turtle is appliquéd on and thread painting gives the definition. Underwater the reflection appears as strips of colour.

Reflections - Joyce Brown - "Honu"
I live in a landlocked province in Canada and my favourite holidays are ones spent near an ocean or lake. Under the water everything is in reverse. Reflections float on top of the object while colour dances all around. This is inspired by a picture I took while diving in Hawaii. I am excited that I don't have to just reflect on the time at the ocean but can once again travel there.
I really liked the free motion quilting something about it gave a lot of movement to the piece.
