Rains are so important in India. So important that our 3 seasons are - Summer, Winter and Rainy! Monsoon season is so special that we have special activities, food and rituals to go with it. Some even have a " Chasing the monsoon" activity where they follow the progressing South-West monsoon on a bike.
Here are some of the images which pop up in my mind when I think of our rainy season.
- The mushrooms that popped up in our backyard overnight and my mom making a fusion dinner of north and south Indian food- mouthwatering "Koon Thoran" (mushroom with coconut side dish ) with hot phulkas(Indian flat bread).
- Walking back home after my Bharatnatyam dance classes during my childhood
- Walking with Rocky, my rescue indie-lab who is very particular about his walks, come sun or rain
- Cycling with the rain and wind in my face - when I was in school or when we went to Kodai hills
- An umbrella upturned in the gale of a cyclone( our version of a storm)
- But the best part is just staying home watching the water droplets racing down the window pane, reading a book, having a hot cuppa tea with some hot bhajia's or pakoras!
Techniques- I wanted to try out some free motion embroidery. I tried to give a feel of looking at photos and so framed each of the images in white fabric. Used some hand quilting in glittery floss for the raindrops.
Absolutely beautiful! I love all the memories and the FMQ embroidery is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful piece, so personal! Love the idea of looking at photos.
