With the coming of spring I'm excitedly starting to work in my garden again. Being in the garden inspired me to focus my piece on efforts to save the bees.
*I started with three hexagon blocks I had leftover from another project which are fused down to the background and machine stitched in place.
*Text was added. Machine stitching the names of popular bee friendly plants around the hexagons.
A running stitch connects the three appliqued bees.
* Each of the three appliqued bees have a sheer organza ribbon with the work BUZZ written on it.
I used a fabric gel roller pen on the ribbon.
* I used a personal photo as inspiration for the plant and bee design. The green parts of the plant were fused on and free motion quilted. The flowering part is several different types of fabric cut in tiny pieces and hand stitched to a lavender background fabric and stuffed to be 3-D. Then it is hand stitched in place.
*I had 2 of these cute bees in my stash. At 5 cents I think I've had them for quite awhile. Time to use them.
*The piece has free motion quilting.
*Finally I turned the edges to the back for a clean outer edge.

ReplyDeleteLove how you made the flowers pop and yes, I do so much more for the bees nowadays than I knew to do before. During the pandemic I viewed a series of webinars on preserving native habitat in urban settings and I am slowly integrating those ideas more into my garden.
