African Safari - Elizabeth Haggblom Kulick - "Africa Time"

African Safari

I started with deciding that I wanted to felt the tree and make it my center piece.
After that I looked for fabric to use for the animals, I found the orange one with the exact scene I wanted and these African women that I fell in love with. I had grass fabric, and I added thread painting to it to make it more dimensional, and some Raffia to the bottom to give it more dimension and texture.  I added a few beads to the ladies neck and wrist.
The outer edge I satin stitched and attached jute to keep that organic feel to it.
I learned a lot from this piece and had a lot of fun doing it.

  10. Wow...I love how you achieved the quality of texture in this quilt. The fabric choices, the quilting, and the raffia all add to create quilt of texture for the eyes.
