Tina Sommer Paaske - Black Bird Fly
My immediate thought to this theme was I wanted to do a blackbird, I grew up with them and I've always loved them.
I've been a Beatles fan since I was 10 years old, so of course their song "Blackbird" is also a part of why I chose this bird.
The background fabric is my own home-dyed and discharge printed. My thinking with this composition is that it could be about a lot of issues, like the meaning of the Beatles song, and also that some people see black birds as a sign of depression. It could be anything that you might come to think of looking at it.
I deliberately chose the female black bird because I wanted it to be about female issues, maybe encouraging to let go and fly to where you want to be. Don't be stuck between a rock and a hard place, Black Bird fly, into the light of the dark black night.

Really beautiful piece Tina ! Very dimensional with the sharp focused bird against the softer "out of focus" background. Your blackbird looks so realistic. Well done !
ReplyDeletelove your bird - very realistic. Blackbirds have always been a favorite of mine!
ReplyDeleteI love your interpretation of the song. The colours are so alive
ReplyDeleteI zoomed in to see your fantastic stitching on the body of the bird - it's great and represents feathers beautifully. You have done a wonderful job with this Tina, your bird has such a good eye.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice of you to chose the female bird and your thread painting is fantastical!!
ReplyDeleteLove the details in the bird. Its face has so much expression.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece, and that face so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLovely. Can you tell me more about the discharge printing technique please.
