My inspiration for the Song Bird challenge was the song "Skybird" written by Canadian Neil Diamond in the early 1970's. The song was part of an award winning soundtrack that Diamond wrote for the movie "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". As a young person I spent many happy hours listening to the music and playing it on the piano.
My quilt (based on a photo taken by my friend Debbie Silverman) is a depiction of a White Tailed Tropic bird or Longtail as it's called in Bermuda. It's a sure sign that spring (and summer) is coming when the Longtails appear on the island after their winter at sea, to mate and nest in the sandstone cliffs next to the ocean.
Their beautiful pure white plumage appears as a soft turquoise reflected from the warm tropical ocean waters.
