I looked at weather images of hurricanes and picked out features from a few, I did raw edge applique, printed out my words on silk organza, painted the fabric to match the background, and hand quilted it.

The Eyes Have It - Sharon - "Hurricane"
When I first heard of the challenge, I thought of 2 things, my vision and hurricanes. As you can see hurricanes won out. I live in Long Island NY, growing up we had many hurricanes. I always love a good storm as long as I am inside!. I would watch the trees bending in the wind, rain poring down, and the creek rising. But what made an impact was the eye of the storm, my siblings and I would wait for it- then we would walk around our yard- it would be very quiet- the rain would stop, the wind would be a faint breeze, birds did not sing, then all of a sudden we would be back in the hurricane!
Sharon, I think this is a great piece...love how you thought of a hurricane! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteLove the "quiet moment"; that must be quite an experience. I have only seen the devastations of hurricanes and for me the smell afterwards, after the mud slides.. that's what hurricanes will be for me for the rest of my life.
ReplyDeleteYou have captured a real sense of movement in this piece - thankfully not an experience I have ever been through.
ReplyDeletelove your thoughts and experience of being in the eye of the storm
