New Member Introduction - Susanne MacDonald

Hello fellow quilt artists!
I am so excited to become a part of this group and overwhelmed by the warmth of your greetings!

Allow me to introduce myself to you.........

My name is Susanne MacDonald, and I am happily married to my husband, Rick, who supports and encourages my passion for making art quilts.  He doesn't even begrudge my "stash"!  We have one daughter and a three year old granddaughter who also live in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.

I have sewn since I was eight years old but didn't begin quilting until the mid-nineties.  While I have done many traditional style quilts, I tend to lose interest after doing a couple of blocks and having an idea of what the finished quilt will look like. When the/my local quilt guild started adding various challenges to our annual program, it led me to putting my focus towards creating quilts of my own design for entry. I love nothing more than a challenge! My quilts are always a work in progress because I have no idea where each step will lead me on my creative journey to a finished product.  This keeps my interest peaked.

Each year, our national quilt association ( CQA ) puts on a fabric challenge with a theme.  The first year I entered the competition, I was fortunate enough to take home the highest place ribbon (Trend-Tex Challenge), and that of Viewer's Choice, as well.  My confidence was boosted and I felt as if my work was of a high enough caliber to exhibit to a larger audience.  Hence, a monster was created!

I look forward to sharing our work, exchanging ideas, exploring new techniques, brainstorming, and nurturing new friendships.

May all your stitches be joyful ones!

Susanne

  6. Welcome to the group ! I spent a few summers in Ralston (near "The Hat") as a child in the mid-1960's. We spent many happy days scouring the hoodoos for dinosaur bones, petrified turtle shell and shark teeth. It sounds like you are a very creative and accomplished quilter. I'll look forward to seeing your creations !
