"The Shiralee" D'Arcy Niland, is the book I have chosen for this challenge. Not my favourite, because I really don't have one. This book stands out because it illustrates the hardship families went through during and after the depression and on how difficult it was for fathers to gain custody of their children, although this story is of a fictional family it is still true today.
I have used an old piece of coffee dyed cotton and sketched with Derwent intense pencils for the original drawing and thread painted over it. A little stamping ink over the edges and raised folds and hopefully it looks as if it an aged book cover.

You have captured the figures and the era well Chris. Nice stitching. Haven't read the book but the mini series was good, even if Bryan Brown was in it :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely interpretation! Great use of the pencils and stamping along with your stitches. Just perfect.
ReplyDeleteVERY nicely done and good representation...
ReplyDeleteNicely done Chris. Your drawing and thread painting is lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt. Dont know the book, but love your interpretation of it. Very of its time, great use of media and stitching.
ReplyDeleteReally nice capture of the period! Your figures are wonderful...perfect choice of color...the Dust Bowl had a lot to do with the times also!
ReplyDeleteWhile I have not yet read "The Shiralee", I can see in your art quilt the love the father has for his daughter and the daughter for her father. Father leading as best he can with the child following in his footsteps....each smiling.
