At long last my Uniform challenge is done!
When the topic was announced I began thinking along the
lines of uniform = even, constant, straight …. rather than the type of uniform
that one might wear. A few years ago I
used pintucks as part of a design so this time I thought to make tucks the
principal element. I marked along the
edges of a long piece of white fabric and then had a marathon session of fold,
stitch, fold, stitch, etc.,etc. Then I
sliced up my pintucked fabric (that was a bit scary to do!) and reassembled
it.
The folds are pointed in different directions which makes
the shadows interesting IMHO– depending on the direction of the light different
folds are accentuated. And since the fabric is not coloured or patterned the
shadows are more important than they might otherwise be.
A final design element was the addition of two rows of
buttons (each row with a uniform size of buttons that were uniformly
spaced). The only randomness was a sprinkling
of beads between the buttons.
The first picture has light coming from the top while the second is lit from the side. And lastly a detail of the buttons.

I like all the tucks and the pureness of the white color!
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely and the idea of adding the beads inbetween the buttons is quite clever!! Just perfect!!
ReplyDeleteYour pin tucks are perfectly uniform! It's always frightening to me when I cut up a piece too. I like the added texture by switching the directions and the beads add just a touch of surprise.
ReplyDeleteA great little quilt with a great idea, but who made it?
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done Allison.
ReplyDeleteoops....I was so pleased that I remembered how to do a blog post that I forgot it also need a title. Thanks to whoever fixed it for me. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how pretty. And your binding is the perfect finish to those perfectly uniform pintucks.
