Uniform - Jay

The theme "Uniforms" inspired me to do a real uniform!  With that in mind, I tossed around several ideas...military, police, nurse, etc. then came up with the thought to do a Girl Scout uniform.  We are a family of four generations of Girls Scouts...my mom was  a Girl Scout Leader; I was a Scout and a leader; and my daughters and granddaughters have all been Scouts.

A few years ago, the Girls Scouts celebrated their 100 Birthday and I made a quilt for my Guild Challenge that year with that theme. And was pleased to have won a prize with it.

As the one I did for the show is a little large to hang, I thought it would be nice to have a small wall size quilt that would represent the our scouting to hang in my studio with my other AQATW!

Step one..the sketch and the background
Step two...choosing the right green and printing badges
Step three...making the blouse collar and the tie
Step four...the final stitching and embellishing with real pins in the upper  section.

  1. Love it!!! My son is a Cub right now in the boy scouts (I think the terminology and the designations may vary in different countries!) I love your quilt, both the large one and this one too!!!

    1. The pins are real, but the badges are just some I downloaded from the Internet, printed out on fabric and fused on.

  6. What a wonderful way to remember those scouting years. I was the Daisy Scout leader for my daughter's troop. I've been thinking of doing something for her. Yours is perfect!
