When considering the theme, snowflake, I thought of the snow gum tree.
After many years bushwalking in the Australian Snowy Mountains, I have become fascinated with the snow gum, it's varied, twisted forms and the range of beautiful colours shining throughout it's bark.
This quilt, "Snowgum" represents a section of this bark, with snow clinging to it's texture.
"Snowgum" is made from a variety of fabric scraps, cottons, satins, and furnishing fabrics, raw-edge appliqued and quilted. The "snow" was created into a collage from tiny pieces of lace, organza, thread, net, and angelina fibre, then appliqued into place. The lace was satin stitched to the edge as a " snowy" border.
I have enjoyed making my first quilt with "art quilts around the world", it's always good to have a challenge.

Nice piece Dale with the little bit of snow on the edges. Love the layering and textures you have achieved for the bark as well. Great first challenge.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully interpreted. I love how your fabric choices create just the perfect tree bark strata and your quilting further enhances the "snow gum" bark.
