Out Of This World - Monique

When I first read the title of this challenge my thoughts immediately went to outer space, northern lights, planets etc...But as luck would have it, I was asked to teach a portrait class last last month and some of the class wanted to do a realistic quilt while others wished to play with the abstract.  In putting together an example of abstract portraits the title of our challenge once again came into my head.  What if I were to make an abstract portrait of myself using fabric with images of things in my world that I enjoy?

So, for this piece I've created an abstract Monique made of things...."out of this world".  I'm made up of dragonflies, butterflies, fish, berries, flowers, lizards and cats (to name a few).  It was a fun stretch--as this isn't my usual way of working--but that is one of the things I enjoy about these challenges; they help inspire us to keep asking what if and why not.

  1. Oh, yes, and what if you hadn't finished this train of thought. Look what we would have missed. I love the totally abstract, happy and mentally healthy Moonique.

Perfect background fabric - suits the portrait and the Out of This World theme.
