Then to add the 3-D element to the challenge I hinged the background and let the little guy loose in the garden!
Here is a side view to show how he "free stands" with the background folded down.

He's beautiful Liz and so friendly. I wouldn't mind him taking up residence in my garden!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Good idea to create the 3-D look!
ReplyDeleteOh, how special. I too would love his busy worm-ness in my garden. Great idea for 3-D.
ReplyDeleteHow clever! So much thought has gone into this, superb! Sure would like some critters like this in my garden instead of the leeches and ticks I usually come across.
ReplyDeleteThank you Liz "Pop-Art".
ReplyDeleteA quirky little quilt from you is what I was expecting and you delivered - thanks!
Love the way you think outside the square.
Okay dish the worm - dirt, technical details please - is there velcro involved here? (to make him stand up)
The whole piece is on TimTex (the stiff batting for making bowls) and the worm is another layer of TimTex. (What am I going to do when they stop making TimTex?!!) Velcro is used to keep the "easel" effect when the top is folded down. I used a layer of black netting to push the background a little farther back. Thanks for liking him! I'm always afraid my work is a bit childish next to all you artist guys!
DeleteWhat a great idea Liz, he is just so cute. Love your little worm.
ReplyDeleteGives a whole new light on 'pop' art! ADORABLE!!!!!! So clever and great workmanship!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Love how you've made him fold like a pop-up!
