Monochromatic 2 - Karen Silvers

"Gecko"

I went back in time and pulled a photo of "Repeat" the leopard gecko for this one.  She is actually more yellow/gold and black, but I changed her colors for this challenge.  I got out my handy dandy 3 in 1 Color Tool by Joen Wolfram to verify that my threads and inks were indeed correctly placed in the category.

I was going to use a piece of fabric from my stash, but when I saw this fabulous batik at my LQS, I knew it was the one.  I thread sketched the outline of the gecko and her parts, then inked it in with Tsukineko inks.  I added a piece of wool batting and zig zag thread-painted all over the gecko.  I used straight stitches to "paint" the eye and then cut away the excess batting.  I layered it with more wool batting and quilted around the gecko.  There is terrific texture that doesn't show in this photo.  I will replace it when I get a better one after the sun comes out.

  3. Well done Karen! So the gecko is trapuntoed (two layers of batting for it but only one for the back ground?) when you blow it up you can see all the textures, they look great.

  5. Good Gecko!
Her eye is beautiful - I always think the eye/s are the most difficult part to get right.
    Lovely quilting Karen.
