One day when my daughter, Andrea, was over, we were going through some of my scrap drawers, talking about what we were going to do for our latest challenge..."Reuse, Recycle, Reduce....the 3 R's. A long time ago, I had made all these fabric flowers and leaves...for what purpose...I do not know! So with Andrea's encouragement, I decided to use them as the focal point of my quilt.

Fabric Flowers |
Then I had a whole bunch of different blocks made up for various things so I chose one of them for the background. The one I chose was from an activity that my fiber arts group, studioQ, had done a few years back. We were doing a unit on color; we like to challenge ourselves..this exercise was to draw an abstract shape..use a limited number of colors...then recreate the block in fabric.

Block done in fabric with a wild border! |
Then I added black borders to my block. And many more flowers, leaves and buttons!

My final quilt for the 3R's...Recycle, Reuse, Reduce...(my "reduce" is I reduced the number of flowers I have!) |
A stunner. Great reuse, reduce, recycle.
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers. It is funny how we make things, at the time seems a great idea, but we don't use them. Good to see you found a use.
ReplyDeleteThis is very effective. I especially love the placement of the flowers.
ReplyDeleteAnother clever use of leftovers. I like what you have done with the flowers and they match beautifully with the leftover block
ReplyDeleteThis is just wonderful!!! What planning and what great use of everything!!
ReplyDeleteSo surprised you'd made all those wonderful flowers and can't remember why! That's my sort of memory :) They do look wonderful in your quilt and it's nice to see so much 3D this challenge too.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are beautiful!!! I love how you have cleverly used the block and the flowers!!!
