The 3 R's - Marty Mason

My "Rag Rug"
as it demands to be named
was very simply made with my rayon thread
of which I no longer have a need.

Art Quilts Around the World - 3 R's challenge: reduce, reuse, recyle by Marty Mason

Two muslin scraps + batting + rayon thread =  A rag rug

I've always enjoyed the simplicity and beauty of rugs made from fabric scraps, so my little
rag rug will fit nicely in my home.

  4. Very modern Marty. Now I know what to do with my almost empty spools I am too mean to throw out but can't imagine how to use. Love it!

  6. Very painterly Marty - reminds me of a large abstract oil painting. Love the stitching. One thing though - can't workout why anyone wouldn't want rayon thread? It's one of my favourite types - gorgeous colours and sheen and doesn't melt when you are heat gunning or solder cutting a piece so very handy in a lot of cases. It's also lower lint than cotton. Why don't you like them for your general work?

    1. It's not that I don't like rayon thread, it's just that I don't do that many art quilts and usually use cotton or poly threads in my other quilts. I do love the vibrant colors of rayon and will have to re-think my reluctance to make more art quilts. I need more hours in my day!

  9. Good job!
And those empty thread reels would be melted / flattened and used in another art quilt in my world (I am a plastics torturer)
