The 3 R's - Denise Griffiths
3R's - Denise Griffiths - Tuna Scraps
Well this was a fun challenge. The hardest part being, which left overs to use. I could have papered the walls with what I have collected over the years.
Years ago I made a bed quilt for my son (who is a Fish Scientist and studies Tuna mainly) and on it were many Tuna printed on fabric and placed randomly. This was half left over , so that was what had to be made, Tuna Scraps.
The background sky was hand dyed and left over from a house project. I have a bag I put left over scraps of hand dyed fabrics in, which made up most of the water, and a little bit of batik spot for the surface. I covered the lot in black tulle to hold together.
I went mad with Free Motion quilting and added some glitzy thread to make the Tuna appear to be bursting from the ocean. They are very fast fish so I needed to give the impression of that.
This is so cool! I love the tuna bursting from the sea! What a great collection of scraps you must have. The quilting complements very nicely.
ReplyDeleteA great use of leftovers Denise. Love your sky fabric, perfect choice.
