Thumbs - MaryEllen Sax - "My Green Thumb"

Well I got so excited working on this piece I forgot to take any photos along the way.
I hope the explanation below makes sense for how this piece came together.

* Thumb print was done by adding a fusible to the green solid fabric and fussy cutting out the thumb print design.

* A layer of green net was added over the thumb print and free motion quilting was done to hold all the edges in place.

* Whimsical Flowers:  Hexagon fabric, netting and embroidery flowers, Dyed organza ribbon, and fancy fiber yarn.
Stems: Twisted green fabric, embroidery, wool roving.

* The front fabric was folded over to the back making a crisp outer edge.
It was a fun piece to put together!

  1. Having a green thumb is a skill I envy in other people, I can't grow plants. Creative ideas with your thumb print and the flowers.

  2. Like the way you used a thumbprint as the green thumb. The addition of the flowers brings the meaning to life.
