Song Bird - “Bye Bye Blackbird”
One of my favorite old school songs is Bye Bye Blackbird. I often think about how I got to where I am in life and it all started with me leaving unhealthy relationships to start a new life. This song reminds me of how I now have the courage to leave unhealthy relationships with friends, jobs or even moving to a new city or a new house.
The new technique/medium I used was thread painting. I love free motion embroidery but have never had enough nerve to attempt thread painting. It was truly a challenge at first but after 3 days of stitching different parts of my red winged Blackbird, I got the hang of it. It eventually became very relaxing and meditative. I used a lot of thread too. I went through at least 5 bobbins. I will be doing more thread painting in the near future!
You GO girl! lovely piece and an encouraging story, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat thread painting ! These small projects are perfect to try new techniques. Where I grew up in Alberta we heard a lot of red winged blackbirds.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic piece - that thread painting must have taken a lot of time. Well worth it
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to push your limits and try something new.

ReplyDeleteLove that you have tried (and mastered) a new technique. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your words of encouragement! It was fun but really hard! It literally took hours to complete! I will be doing more thread painting in my art quilts!
