My daughter and granddaughter live in Istanbul and are often invited to Henna Nights before weddings. The bride's female family and friends gather to enjoy music and dance before the bride leaves her mother's home. A very important part of the evening is the application of henna, a flowering plant made into a paste, to the bride. These henna designs reflect a wide variety of flowery or exotic patterns. Guests, too, honor one another with henna 'tattoos'.
My granddaughter, Beyza, is a proficient henna artist and my quilt reflects one of her designs. And yes, that is real nail polish on the fingertips.
handwoven silk fabric from Laos, Thai silk, machine quilting, thread painting on cotton
