Not having done this before, I created a blog under my name and posted a detailed account of my project there. You can see the details here:

To summarize: I loved this challenge! Mid century modern is, to me, the epitome of kitsch. The bold colors and designs, the experimentation with design elements for the home, environment, business, and fashion. It was so lively and fresh. The most challenging aspect to me was how to decide which of the 100 ideas I came with would be my first quilt, in what undoubtedly will become a series for me.
Most of my art quilts include a 3D element or two or five. Even some of my more traditional quilts have had texture or 3D elements. So my decision to do this quilt was based on an idea I got for how I was going to create curlers and wrap it with a scarf. My personal blog details that.
Another challenge was drawing a head/face and hands. I'm not a gifted sketch artist. So I used my own hands to model the hands. I filled a wine glass with wine and studied it until I pretty much understood what I was seeing. Then I drank the wine. It's not good to pour wine back into a bottle. And it's bad luck to pour it down the drain unless it's a truly terrible wine.
But actually, you can make a pretty find jelly out of less than delightful wine.

I love the expression on her face and the 3D curlers and head scarf add an extra bit of tackiness. And of course, most everything goes better with a glass of wine :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous girl! Love the curlers and scarf.
ReplyDeleteLove the make-up and the curlers, the wine glass, and mostly her expression. Great interpretation of the challenge. So creative.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great interpretation of the theme with the curlers and scarf. Humor is one of my favorites!
