Kitsch
by Linda Bardes--Poodles All A Round
This was an easy challenge for me as the completed quilt popped into my mind the minute I saw the challenge and it didn't change. I remembered the Poodle skirts my mother made for my sister and myself. Mine was actually grey and Nancy's was orange. I used red because I wanted the drama of the color.
When I went to my stash to see what might work for the quilt foundation I found a fat quarter of the music fabric and it seemed so appropriate because one of my memories of the 50's was the music. There is a mistake in this quilt. Can you find it?
I tend to collect things that I like and think might be of use some time. The decoration on the skirt languished for a couple of years but finally it was perfect for this piece. I was able to cut the doodad up and use it on this quilt. It's hard to see but one row is white rhinestones and the other ruby rhinestones
..
.
When it comes to colors I associate the 50's with pink and black. It was a big color combination used in many ways. I choose to use it on the back because of that black and pink association. The color did not reproduce well. It was an actual pink.
This was a fun quilt to work with and brought back a lot of memories. Thanks.
Never mind that your background fabric is upside down.....your fab poodle skirt makes up for that faux paux. Great interpretation of kitsch.
ReplyDeleteGot to love a circle skirt with poodle and tulle petticoat. The musical background is perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove the collar and the waistband. Great way to do a poodle skirt and show how full it is. The background musical fabric is perfect for the 50's. Perfect kitsch!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great interpretation of the challenge Linda, the poodle skirt is great. My Aunty had one like this and I was so envious. Layers of starched, rope petticoats underneath.
ReplyDeleteVery fun, love the music and the 3D effect of the skirt
ReplyDeleteI made a poodle skirt for my daughter for a rock-and-roll themed party. This brings back good memories!
