Today is reveal day for the group and it was my turn to choose the topic. I selected the theme Kitsch which means an excess of anything, purposely being tacky or distasteful or cutesie as in Kewpie dolls or kittens on anything! Lots of rhinestones, fruit, flowers, mixes of patterns, trims and embellishments are examples. I chose this subject because I love it, it is fun and I wanted to see what the members would come up with for their challenge pieces! It seemed like from the Facebook group page a few of the members were challenged by the challenge-as was I in the book and favorite song challenges!!
I love cat eye glasses and have a board on Pinterest. I found a great extremely gaudy pair of glasses with flowers and rhinestones that I thought would be a great idea for this challenge. I chose busy fabrics paired together for the background and the dress in rainbow colors. I found the flower beads at Joann fabrics and got way excited because they fit the theme and size for the glasses embellishment. I added a gradation of sizes of rhinestones for the middle of the glasses to complete the kitschy theme. I selected red for the hair because it seemed the "loudest" and I combined both curly and straight hair with a touch of glitter nail polish for highlights!

I found the trim for the neckline at a quilt show I traveled to and thought it was busy and rainbow-like plus if a thread is pulled it will rusch up thus giving a textured look-very busy indeed!
I laughed through this whole project and finished it early. I am excited to finally share it on social media!
I have an idea for the next challange due July 31, 2016. The theme is "Vision Board" and it involves hair color!
I think I enjoy your posts most - I love how you've "portraitized" all our themes! Very clever!
ReplyDeleteThis is great and as with all your quilts really makes me want to do portraits... You definitely stick with your style for your quilts not matter the theme and that too makes me want to find my 'style'. Love your work!!
ReplyDeleteLoud and busy and fun. Very Kitsch indeed.
ReplyDeleteI would know you anywhere. I still have some of those tacky frames and need to dig them out; but I'm afraid, I'd be dining alone!
ReplyDeleteLove those kitschy glasses. Our queen of kitsch, Dame Edna would love them too.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Especially the crazy glasses!!
ReplyDeleteThe hair color and style, the eyes, the glasses -- it's great. Adorably Kitschy!
