Folklore - Janet Hartje - "10,000 Lakes"
The theme of folklore immediately brought to mind Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. Minnesota is known as The Land of 10,000 Lakes. This is all because of Paul and Babe. The two became lost in Minnesota during the storm of the century, crossing and recrossing the state. In the spring their footprints filled with the melted snow to form all the lakes in Minnesota.
This quilt is fused raw edge applique and a small amount of thread painting. I think it looks a little like an old postcard. You can read a little more on my own blog. I also have a link to a Disney video about Paul Bunyan. At the very end of the video on You Tube they create the 10,000 Lakes of Minnesota.

It is like a picture postcard Janet. A charming story and a charming quilt. I love how Paul Bunyan is striding into the picture with intent, Babe at his side. Great choice of background fabric.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading the Paul Bunyan stories as a child. I like how you made the lakes like real footprints. And Paul and Babe are ready to stomp out some more.
