Folklore - Christine Lee

My painted and beaded mermaid has been appliquéd,  cut and applied to layered  fabric which I kantha stitched with different thickness and coloured threads adding the whitewater at the same time. The hair is dyed open weave fabric and was stitched in placed with pearls and seaweed. I have layered a shear fabric over the top by attaching large beads over the kantha fabric and using the soldering iron to cut into the shear and finally painting with glitter nail polish.

  1. I love your mermaid. She sits so well in her sea. Very accomplished layering and stitching to give the illusion of flowing water. Brilliant.

  9. Kantha stitch is basically a running stitch pulled in just a fraction to give a rippled look, as soon as you start getting waves in the fabric you change direction. Sewn on fabric and light weight batting.
