My Favorite Book Is... - Shruti Dandekar

I was overjoyed when this challenge was announced. I wanted to make a 3D book! But then I thought about copyright issues and decided I want to make something unusual, but something that tells everyone which my favorite book is - all this without violating copyrights.

So here is my quilt!

You can use your smartphone to scan the quilt and it will tell you what my favorite book is!

I used my reverse applique technique to make this.

First I layered backing - batting - black fabric - white fabric. I pinned it together and quilted the grid - 29 x 29 squares. I used my walking foot to get those even lines! No puckers!!!

The n I spent some quality time with my seam ripper and my lovely stork scissors, cutting out the white fabric from squares that should be black!

Ta-da! The quilt was ready!!!

Now go scan the quilt and find out what my favorite book is!!!

Cheers!!!

  1. This is just wonderful! My friend, Kay whom you met with me at Quilt Con, does this kind of thing too. I am in awe of your thinking! I do have a smart phone, but it is smarter than I because I dont know how to scan anything on it!

    1. You're a step ahead of me Jay - I don't have a smart phone so can't scan the Q code!

  2. Fantastic. I was just playing around with some reverse applique for the first time last week. It was nowhere near as neat as your though.
