Texture - Robyn - "Forest"

Forest.
I love the different textures of the variety of trees in our yard so it was an easy decision to use tree trunks and the forest floor as inspiration for the Texture challenge.

The tree turns are representative of various trees. The trunk on the right is representative of 2 different types of palm trees. The tree trunks were made first and stitched onto the background after the quilting was done. For the left trunk I put a medium vilene onto some brownish hand dyed fabric. I cut a piece of oversized brown net fabric with flowers on it and pleated and folded it onto the base as I stitched to give it texture. More texture was added by putting a couple of pieces of orange plastic produce netting underneath. The palm trunk is a striped fabric, heavily stitched on the lower part and the top is made from some old net curtain fabric, coloured with parissiene essence, twisted and contorted as well as some woven string. To give some texture to the background snippets of thread and fabric were sprinkled over, green and orange cheesecloth was laid over the top 2/3's then black tulle put on top and the whole piece quilted. The tree trunks were added and some leaves and lichen were stitched on. The leaves are 2 layers of organza free-motion stitched. The lichen  was stitched on solvy in a hoop.

  4. For some reason I could have guessed this was your quilt Robyn. Maybe the colours maybe the very very exact and neat quilting. Very textual.
