This piece has been made as a screen, two sides, the back is the red, very different reds and fabrics patchwoked. The fish are embroidered shibori style onto a back ground of boro stitched small pieces of Japanese indigo coloured fabric from my stash. I glued sate sticks between the quilts, stitched a handmade cord on the edge and glued painted beads to the end of the sticks. All very easy and enjoyable but time consuming,

ReplyDeleteSorry Marty I have been away and was not sure how to edit but yes it is shirobori but I have added boro and free motion machine stitching, just twicking it a little. Thanks for your comments.
DeleteSorry not shibori it is sashiko. I always get the name for dyeing confused with the stitching.

ReplyDeleteYes it is reversible and it folds up and is easy to store.

ReplyDeleteYour piece reminds me of the screens ladies used to protect their complexion from the heat of the open fires in the olden days. I love that it is free standing and can be veiwed from either side.
