I initially thought my inspiration would come from some kind of uniform be it sport, work, school etc. but always in the back of my mind was the idea that uniform meant "the same" or "of one form". Mr google came to my aid again and I found these definitions from dictionary.com:-
Word Origin and History for uniform
From here I settled on the circle shape. At this point I felt that the circles need not be all the same size, or even the same colour, after all, the leaves or indeed flowers of any given plant would be considered "uniform", even though they are not necessarily the same size or colour. I wanted a neutral background with bright circles. Red and green circles was an easy choice because to me it represents a particular "uniform" to me, being the colours of my footy team. By luck I just happened to have red and green fabrics with circle prints which fitted the theme. The construction is simple, two fabrics for the background, fused circles and Some simple wavy lines for the quilting, facing finish.
Right up until this was finished my idea was that the format for the quilt would be portrait but whilst taking photos I decided that it looked better in the landscape format, what do you think?

I almost made uniform circle shapes. Yours go a step further though since they represent the colors of your team. Fun design. Like the choice of a dotted fabric as well.
ReplyDeleteI was intially thinking about circles, but never went ahead of that thought! Love your quilt and I agree, the Landscape orientation looks a lot better!
ReplyDeleteVery clever!!! Really like the color added to b/w/grey fabric!!! NICE!!
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought we had made it through the footy season Robyn, untouched by the red and green. I should have known better Ha Ha
ReplyDeleteI think landscape looks best.as well and I have never seen a dot or spot I didn't like.
Very nice...I am leaning toward the portrait for some reason..but both are really great!
ReplyDeleteYour 'uniformity' is unique. The pop of circles on gray is eye-catching. Great art.
