Uniform - Robbie P.


Honest...my piece is not crooked as it looks here!  I admit I'm not a good photographer!!  Sorry!!!

What can be more 'uniform' than hex's!  OK, that was my thought!!    I started out cutting 2" strips as well as cutting out the paper hex's; sewed the hex fabric to the papers, then sewed the piece together.


Next up I made a template from freezer paper so I knew the size of hex's I needed as well as my pattern for the border.


I cut the border fabric and fused to my hex background...yes, I'm lovin making hex backgrounds!  HA
The piece was sandwiched and I used a triple stitching around the hex's.

 Because I didn't quilt any of the border, I thought it needed something else...so I painted a few hexes in the border then hand stitched around them.    And that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

    I knew it....I just knew those where hexies in the teaser photo. How uniform can this be.....well almost. Love the whimsy of the dropped hexagons.

    Love the hexis, the difference in size and esp black ones. They are so sharpe yet still organic. Great quilt, love it.

    I love the hexies!! And someone who thought she made a whole lot of them (till I put them together and it measured only 18" x 21") I know how much work it involves! I love the 'modern' look of your quilt!

    Love the look of hexi's. I haven't managed to make more than five or six so I am impressed with your number. Fun look, very modern.

      P.S. re photographing your quilt. I pin mine to an artists canvas, take it outside and set it on a windowsill, if possible so that the middle of the quilt is roughly at eye height. Focus in the centre of the quilt. This is best done early in the morning or late in the day when the light is good but not too bright. Try to find a position where there are no shadows from either you or surrounds that will cross the quilt.

    I love the play of light in the fabric you chose for your hexes! But I think my favorite part are the ones you added (painted!) in the border!
