Snowflake - Judith Clarke

The whole snowy quilt.

I started this quilt using the middle panel of self dyed fabric with snowflakes stenciled on it using a texture medium. The two side panels are also random dyed, which I thought looked like snow crystals.
The quilting is seed stitching around the snowflakes and following some of the patterns of the dye in the side panels. I then added crocheted snowflakes to add texture to the side panels. I particularly like the way the tones change in the middle panel and tried to emphasise that with the stitching/quilting which was completed using random coloured threads.

My first challenge with this group, I have enjoyed it very much. The quilt isn't what I envisaged at the beginning, I had more techniques in mind to use but thought simplyfying it has made for a better result.

  1. I like every inch of your art quilt, but particularly how you did the stitching with different thread colors. Adds so much pizzazz!.

  3. I fell in love with your teaser, i was imagining the screened snowflakes to be much much bigger and the entire quilt. It's good to see it in real size - there's so much more to it.

  6. The crochet snowflakes are a lovely idea. And the hand stitching sets them off nicely.

  7. The crochet snowflakes add so much depth to your wintery scene. We don't have a lot of snow where I live but this is what I imagine it to be like. It is beautiful.
