Snowflake - Andrea Dodds

Here is my Snowflake quilt.

I quilted the background with a variegated black and white thread to represent snow falling in the distance on a dark night. I used an oversized background with the plan to cut it down to the final size at the end.

I then wanted to have some close up snowflakes so using fusible web, I cut out a number of different snowflakes and positioned them around the background.

In the end, I decided that I wanted a single flake and set the others aside. After adhering the snowflake to the background, I started quilting it with a silver, metallic thread...but that gave me fits so I quit that and just went with white thread. I wanted to keep with a pretty simple finish, so cut it down to size and finished with a white binding.

  2. I love the starkness of just your one snowflake and the white thread on black. Refreshingly cool as a snowflake should be.

  6. I like both versions but the single snowflake has more impact. Add the vertical quilting lines and you have a lovely work of art.

  9. Andrea, I absolutely love your snowflake. The lines in the background really lift the whole thing. Love all the snowflakes. Maybe you could make a bigger quilt and use them all.

  10. What beautiful snowflakes you made - all of them.
I like both versions, but yes agree that one snowflake by itself is stunning!
Lovely background and fantastic binding choice.
This all works really well together - well done Andrea.
