Snowflake - Marty Mason

In the heat of the night:

Snowflakes Challenge: Art Quilts Around The World....Marty Mason

I've been itching to make a paper quilt and decided this was just the perfect place to start.  I first took all my junk mail and ironed fusible on the back then cut into pieces and sewed back together in an improv log cabin style and quilted it all about.  I puzzled over how to make snowflakes but knew I had to come up with something......after all, that is the theme!

With paper still in my mind, I took a burgandy color cardstock and cut out snowflakes, then took a piece of printed-on copy paper and cut a smaller snowflake to glue on top of the burgandy.  These were then hung on the art quilt with silk ribbon.  Still not quite finished but the voila moment didn't come until I was trimming down half-square triangles for another project.  All those little orange and pink and lavender trimmings made the most delightful snowflakes when spiraled out and stitched down in the center to hold them in place.

I took this one seriously and had a blast (of snowflakes) doing it.
