Snowflake - Denise Griffiths - "All That Glitters"

                              Snowflake, Denise Griffiths

This is my Snowflake Challenge quilt.

The background fabric is batik that looks like little snow crystals. One of those fabrics that sit in your stash waiting for the right use.

The Snowflake was free motion stitched on tulle and dissolving solvy, put in a hoop to keep it taut. Unfortunately it doesn't show very well just how much stitching or the silver thread worked on top of it. The solvy was washed out and when dried the tulle was cut away.

It was attached with free motion stitching and echo quilted around.

To finish it I sprayed some white shimmery "Smooch Spritz" on it so it glistens in the light. I think you will have to take my word for that, doesn't show too well.

  1. Nice, very nice. I've wanted to try this technique...probably never will, so I will just enjoy the beauty of your snowflake.

  4. Gorgeous! Love the snowflake. wish I could see the glitz - it's incredibly hard to photograph shimmer (and I should be good at it since it's almost everything i do and still can't get it right!)

  8. I really like the center of your snowflake (and can imagine how much more I'd enjoy it if I ever got to see it in person!) I also like your echo quilting to support your piece as well. Great job!
