Out Of This World - Shruti

This challenge had me stumped for quite a while.

I thought long and hard about what OOTW makes me think of. My mind kept playing a slide show of the words - space, infinity, stars, planets, galaxies, moons, satellites, UFO's, aliens, comets and a whole lot of 'space' stuff. Again and again, I could only think of the vast mysteries that the vast space beyond our world has to offer. There are a few mysteries that we have solved (or we think we have) but there are many more that we have not even thought of doing anything about!

My quilt - Vortex - is made to symbolize those mysteries!

I started with a black fabric and Gelli printed it using Acrylic colours.

I layered a black organza on top of the fabric and spiral quilted it with an Aurifil Black thread in 40 wt. I like the effect that this thread gives. It is seen and yet, blends in with the background.

I also quilted a few random straight lines. I then cut the organza in between the spiral lines and washed the quilt to make it fray!

I love the chenille effect of the organza!!!

Had a tough time getting pictures of this one! But I think this one detail picture will be sufficient to give you an idea!

Hope you like my OOTW!!!

Cheers!!!
