Out Of This World - Robyn - "Synonyms"

Synonyms
I knew I didn't want to do what usually comes to mind when hearing the phrase "out of this world". Aliens, outer space, and the supernatural are not my thing. I was thinking of something more "earthly", like "wow! that chocolate cake is out of this world (it is soooo good). I googled the phrase and came up with lots of synonyms and as I've always wanted to make a quilt with text I was off and running. Armed with some pale blue fabric, an alphabet stencil, a fabrico pen and a list of synonyms I set to work.

The quilting design was one I'd seen at The Australian Modern Quilt Show on the day I started the quilt. I used stitch #19 on my Janome machine and adjusted the stitch width and length and am very happy with the result. I was watching my footy team, the mighty South Sydney Rabbitohs while working on the quilt so as a nod to them I did a row each of red and green quilting through the word awesome, because they are.

Initially I planned to simply face the quilt but felt it needed some colour. Suggestions from the group were a red and green stripe to tie in with the 2 coloured lines of quilting but it didn't look quite right on the pale blue background. After auditioning several different stripes I settled on a multi-coloured one. The Superman fabric was in my stash and I thought it suited the theme so used it for the backing.

  1. Cool! (there's another synonym for you).
As for binding a red & green stripe would be 'unreal' .

  2. You know this pains me Robyn but red and green binding definetly. There, don't say I never support you and your footy team. Your quilt came out well after all the procrastinating and the quilting came out great, that was a good idea. Now onto our Snowflake!!! stop groaning.

  7. Thanks Fleur. The binding sure does make a difference. Just goes to show you have to change your mind sometimes and let the quilt make its own decision.
