Road Less Traveled ... A Stitch In Time ... Lynn Cohen
Life has a beginning, a middle and an end. At sixty five I felt I was suddenly diving into the END part of life. I got interested in making art. Art quilts and later drawing and painting.
At 72, and especially after the death of my dearest life long friend of the same age in July of this year, it started to feel like TIME was running out. Or it could, at any moment.
When I started playing with stencils on fabric, my "road less traveled" new technique for me; and when I accidentally placed one stencil upside down and the clock came out back wards I decided that was NO MISTAKE! I would very much like to set the clock back. Slow time down. Wanting selfishly MORE TIME to ENJOY LIFE~
So I do... one, two, three, jump out of bed in the morning, and ENJOY the heck out of the new day I have been given, a real gift, and hope it's a long, long time yet until they all run out, as I have many, many roads less traveled to traverse yet~
Process: Stencil and acrylic paints on white cotton; machine sewn around, and some hand stitching added. Pillowcase "frame". The meaning is mostly in the feelings that came out of the stenciling. I had no idea what I was doing when I started! I just let it evolve and, as it always does, it did!
