When this challenge was announced the school bus that takes our children to school was under threat of being terminated. Without the school bus we would be faced with a 50km round trip twice a day to get our children to and from school our neighbours have even further to travel or face changing schools. The families that use this school bus rallied together and fought to save this essential service for our children. We have acheived a small victory in that the bus will remain until the end of 2014 and then be reviewed again. We know that at the end of next year we will be battling again to retain our only means of public transport for our children to attend school.
So my first thoughts for Road Less Travelled was to use an image of a school bus or a "Ghost" school bus to show the road would be travelled less by the non-existant school bus.
But I didn't want to have my entire being swallowed by the "School Bus Issue" and decide I wanted to create without a school bus being the focus of my art quilt.
My next thought was: What if I was the "road less travelled"? How would that look? What would I see?
So when you look at my quilt imagine that You the viewer are the "road less travelled"
I figure if I was the road all I would see would be the sky and a bit of the grass at the edge of the road, and the occasional footprint.
Construction: Commercial fabrics (sky and grass) lightly quilted around the clouds. Shoe print outline on a sheer fabric, stabilized with a wash-away stabiliser, stitched with decroative stitches, layed over the background, shoeprint outline stitched, grass lightly stitched.
