Denise's Self Portrait

Denise Griffiths Self Portrait Challenge Quilt
This is a self portrait I had to do in Art School based on the style of a known artist. I chose Clemente as his work is interesting. I printed the picture on fabric and blocked it in with some Japanese fabrics I love. Some freemotion stitching was done to outline.
This is my third attempt to get this blog on, realised you can't do it from an Ipad successfully. The fact I had just arrived home from Japan, tired and brain dead didn't help.
So if you have seen this pop up everywhere SORRY.

  2. Such a powerful feeling this emotes! Wow!! We had a monochromatic challenge a while back this would have worked for as well! After you recover from jet lag I'd love to hear more about your personal story behind this... That is if you WANT to share!

  3. I love the way the light works on this quilt. Fantastic! Should work from iPad, you may be able to get a blogger app, that is what I use on my Android phone.

  6. This is wonderful. I can look at it and keep seeing things and wondering about the meaning. It looks like tears streaming down from one eye. And the way you did the corners of the frame is really nice. I've not seen that done before. I'm with Lynn, if you are willing to share I'd like to hear more.

  7. I love your portrait..as I said on FB...It reminded me of Picasso's Cubism period, which I love...I was thinking Cubism when I did mine. I do see the Clemente influence now that you have explained your inspiration! Really well done!

  11. This is really dramatic, especially when you look at the close-up. The eyes are spectacular, and there looks to be so much more behind the surface. I like how you framed the piece - the colors add so much more dimension.

  13. How frustrating! Ipads are worthless when trying to write blog posts. I really like your interpretation for this quilt. Very powerful.
